When you’re knee-deep in client projects with tight deadlines, who has the time—much less the inclination—to refresh a dusty old portfolio?

There might also be a little paranoia:

What if the boss sees I’ve updated my portfolio and assumes I’m gearing up to bail? Is updating my portfolio worth my job?

The problem is that if you’re not cataloging your work regularly, there’s likely at least some of it getting misplaced and forgotten, essentially lost to the darkest corners of your hard drive.

The solution is to change how we look at portfolios altogether.

What Else Can Your Portfolio Do?

Besides finding a job, keeping your portfolio up-to-date also:

Gives you more insight into yourself
